We all know that water is a very important part of a healthy lifestyle. I’m sure you have been told to drink at least 8 glasses of water per day and that most people don’t even come close to drinking the recommended amount. But WHY should we drink so much water? It improves brain power, energy, weight loss, helps circulation, complexion, headaches… the list of benefits goes on and on. But did you know that water can actually help your hair grow? Yes, you heard me correctly!

It is common knowledge that our body is composed of 60-80% of water, but did you know that water actually makes up almost 25% of the weight of a single strand of hair? Unfortunately, the hair is the last to see any of the water you consume in a day. By the time it has been shared around all your vital body parts, there is not much leftover for your hair to see any benefit. But without it your hair cannot grow!

Vitamins are a key factor for hair growth, and water is a key to getting them where they need to go! Drinking water provides more vitamins to our hair strands than taking actual vitamin supplements. Many women take a multivitamin or vitamins specifically made to promote hair growth, but what they don’t know is that these supplements will not work unless you are well hydrated.
Hydration also impacts your scalp and hair health. Even mild dehydration can lead to scalp issues like dandruff, and can cause your hair to break, thin and even fall out! There are certainly amazing products out there to help with these issues too, but giving your hair the moisture it needs is an easy way to help prevent your hair from becoming brittle or getting those pesky split ends.
So, drink more water! By increasing your water intake to at least two liters of water a day, you can have stronger, longer and healthier hair. It really is that easy! What’s even better? It’s FREE! Think about it… we are privileged to have easy access to the cheapest beverage available in the United States and it just so happens to be the best thing we can put in our bodies.

Oh, you say you don’t like water? Well, there are plenty of alternatives to get your daily dose of hydration but they’ll cost you a little. Try one of the many sparkling varieties available, dress it up with some fresh fruit to give it a little natural flavor, or opt for unsweetened or herbal teas. Eat fruit like watermelon, strawberries, or grapefruit (they are all over 90% water). There is no excuse to deny your body all of the benefits of WATER!
